Introducing Ashley Gordon: Calming, Compassionate Midwife Joins NOVA Birth Services

NOVA Birth Services is proud to announce the addition of Ashley Gordon to its esteemed team of midwives, childbirth educators, doulas, and lactation consultants. Known for her sweet demeanor and warm presence, Ashley is more than just a skilled professional—she is a compassionate soul dedicated to supporting families throughout the transformative journey of childbirth.

With a background that spans years of education and hands-on experience, Ashley is uniquely qualified to assist families through home births in the Nashville vicinity. She brings an impressive set of credentials, including being a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), a Certified Lactation Educator and Doula, a Master of Science in Midwifery from Bastyr University, and a Monitrice. In addition, she is NRP certified.

In 2018, NOVA Resource Manager, Kristin Bennecker and NOVA Educator and Doula, Katie Dunning met Ashley during a Bereavement Doula Training, and at the time, she was a birth photographer with a big heart. We always hoped we’d get to see her more, and then come 2024, she registered for our Homebirth Essentials Course with her husband. What a delight it was to reconnect.

Ashley’s journey into birth work began in an unexpected and deeply personal way. “Several close friends of mine are doulas, and they inspired me to start attending births as a photographer,” she shares. “A few births in, I was hooked. I became a doula, and then went to midwifery school. The families who invite me to walk alongside their pregnancies and births inspire me to pursue more knowledge and experience in this transformational process.” Her passion for supporting families is evident, and her desire to make a difference in people’s lives continues to drive her growth within the field.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ashley is also a loving wife and mother. When asked how she met her husband, she shared a delightful story: “We’re a success story of newfangled digital matchmaking services (i.e., Hinge)! Oddly enough, I’d met Graham’s parents six years earlier through the MTSU Christian Center, but we hadn’t connected until he moved to Nashville for his job. He bought the house next to mine while we were dating, and the rest is history!”

Well-rounded and grounded, Ashley is not only dedicated to her work but also to enjoying life’s little pleasures. Her favorite food? Butter chicken from Taj, a local favorite. Her all-time favorite artist is Nickel Creek, and her cherished book series is none other than Anne of Green Gables—a classic that resonates with her warmth and love for storytelling.

As she joins a team already known for its commitment to providing humanizing care, we are confident that her compassionate presence and wealth of knowledge will enrich the experiences of the families she serves. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Ashley into the NOVA family, and we look forward to the profound impact she will continue to have on the lives of the families she supports.
